I decided to stop counting the weeks. I’ve managed to do better than my original goal of blogging at least monthly. It seems the object of that project is achieved, I now spend time writing daily. Even if it’s hard, unproductive or a bit demoralizing, I still sit at the keyboard every night with my work in progress open. Sometimes I write a thousand words, sometimes I scroll social media or listen to Taylor Swift. But the habit is doing it’s job. This book has now crossed the point I’ve given up time and time before. It has a loose structure, a plot (of sorts) and developed characters. And, even when it’s hard, I am putting words on the page.
I’ve set a goal of July 1st to have a cohesive first draft. Now that I’ve typed it out in black and white, I almost want to take it back. Deadlines are motivators. I pretty sure I need one, even if it’s self-imposed. Once I have the draft done, it’s off to my early readers for feedback. If all goes well, I’ll have a 2nd draft ready to shop around by September. I’ll post some chapters here once I’m closer to the finish line.
